As an Beck Web Virtual Server Administrator, you have access to a
large array of programs that extend the capability and functionality
of your Server. These programs are called "extensions" and
though some were developed by third parties, they are all supported by
Beck Web's Virtual Servers.
Each of the extensions is accompanied by a large amount of
documentation which you should review and understand if you are to
fully utilize the power of these extensions. Some of the extensions
have license agreements that you should make yourself familiar with
and agree to. Furthermore, some of these license agreements require
that we charge a small license fee.
iManager
Beck Web has provided a web content manager and file
browser, iManager, specifically for use with its AW Virtual Server
System. The iManager utility provides a familiar form interface (which
you access with your favorite browser) for such tasks as uploading
files from your computer to your Server, copying files, deleting
files, renaming files, editing files and much more.
iRoot
Our content manager and file browser, iManager, is
supplemented by another plugin, iRoot. The iRoot plugin allows you to
remotely administrate your Virtual Server by providing easy form based
wizards. The iRoot wizards walk you through the process of setting up
POP accounts, removing POP accounts, adding and deleting e-mail
aliases, changing passwords, and many others.
Windows
95/NT Fileshare
The Windows 95/NT Drag and Drop feature (unique to the
AW Virtual Server System) allows you to map your Virtual Server's home
directory to your Windows 95 or NT desktop over the Internet. This is
a very convenient and handy interface for maintaining your Web site.
After your Virtual Server's network drive is mapped, you simply need
to "drag-and-drop" files to your Virtual Server. This
feature also allows you to delete, copy, and move files on your
Virtual Server as if it were a local drive.
Virtual Subhosting
The AW Virtual Server System can now be configured to
house multiple Virtual Hosts. This allows you to subdivide your
Virtual Server into multiple partitions, each of which responds to its
own individual domain name.
RealAudio
Because the BWSD AW Virtual Server System operates
autonomously in its own environment (just like a dedicated server),
configuring your Virtual Server to stream
RealAudio and
RealVideo is a simple matter. Our installation and
configuration instructions are easy to follow. In fact, you will find
it is extremely easy to add multimedia capability to your web site
hosted on the BWSD AW Virtual Server System.
CyberCash
CyberCash enables you to create sites that can charge
credit cards online. In most cases, you will also want to get SSL and
a Digital Certificate if you wish to have a successful online site
that conducts Internet commerce.
mSQL
Mini SQL is a light weight relational database engine
that supports a subset of the ANSI SQL specification. It has been
designed to perform the operations that it supports quickly and with
very little resource overhead.
MySQL
MySQL is a true multi-user, multi-threaded SQL
relational database management system. It is specifically designed to
be a fast, robust, and easy to use database solution.
PostgreSQL
PostgreSQL is a sophisticated Object-Relational database
management system, supporting almost all SQL constructs, including
subselects, transactions, and user-defined types and functions. It is
one of the most advanced open-source database available today.
htmlscript
(Miva)
By acting as a pre-processor and reading embedded tags
and HTML syntax, Htmlscript can dramatically reduce development
time by providing canned applications without compromising custom
development. Htmlscript is a server based program that preprocesses
its own markup language and outputs standard HTML output which is read
by the browser.
SSL
or Netscape Compatible Encryption
You have the option to add Netscape Compatible
Encryption to your AW Virtual Server. With Netscape Compatible
Encryption, your customers will feel confident sending you their
credit card information online because they know it will be a secure
transaction.
Microsoft
FrontPage98 Extensions
Microsoft FrontPage delivers great web publishing power
for non-programmers, is very easy to use, and offers advanced web
publishing features all tightly integrated with Microsoft Office.
Microsoft
FrontPage 2000 Extensions
Microsoft FrontPage 2000 delivers even greater web publishing power
for non-programmers. Note: Follow the FrontPage2000 Install Instructions carefully if you are changing from FP98 Extensions to FP2000 Extensions. There are some changes required to some of your
setup and server configuration file(s).
Autoresponders
An autoresponder returns the contents of a file as the
response to a mail message sent to an address on your AW Server. For
example, you may want to set up an autoresponder to answer all "info@yourdomain.com"
requests by responding with a Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)
document.
Mime
Types
The AW Virtual Web Service includes an entire web server
with a complete set of configuration files (httpd.conf, mime.types, et
al). Your Server's "mime.types" file can easily be edited to
allow your Virtual Web Service to serve content such as Macromedia's
Shockwave, etc.
PHP/FI
Providing similar functionality to that of Miva, PHP/FI
or "Personal Home Page/Form Interpreter," offers a
server-side scripting language which enables users to write simple
scripts and include them directly in html files. This speeds up the
overall performance of your web pages since the overhead of forking
Perl several times has been eliminated.
Event
Scheduler
The BWSD Virtual Server System includes access to a
daemon which can execute scheduled commands. This daemon, commonly
known as "cron", can in effect tell the system to 'run this
command at this time on this date'.
Java
Virutal Machine
There are several Java tools which are currently
available on your Virtual Server. These include a Java Virtual Machine
(kaffe), a Java Bytecode Compiler (javac), and a Java Native Compiler
(toba).

Contributed
Programs and Utilities
Many third party applications are also supported by the
AW Virtual Server System. We have compiled installation instructions
for a sizeable array of popular programs including Majordomo, PGP, WWW
Count, just to name a few.
Software License Fees
Due to newer developments and arrangements with software developers,
the charges for mSQL installation have been eliminated, as have the
Real Audio charges. For any server extensions that we install that may
have licensing fees attached, they would be at bargain rates for
virtual server owners.
At Beck Web, we recognize the harmful effects of software piracy and
illegitimate use, and therefore attempt to negotiate and purchase a
site license to use the software when possible. If a site license
cannot be secured, we will attempt to make other arrangements with the
author of the software. Thus you will save a great deal of money since
we secure licenses, contracts, and partners as a corporation
representing thousands of businesses and individuals (you).
For example, we have negotiated with the author of mSQL, David
Hughes, for site wide use of mSQL. Ther is no longer a site license
fee required from virtual server owners.

The Real Audio 5.0 Basic Server is now availbale to BWSD virtual
server owners since Real Audio has made this server free. You can find

Beck Web is constantly looking to provide its clients with the
latest Server extensions available. Unfortunately there are often
license costs associated with these products; however, Beck Web will
continue to negotiate the best possible licensing agreements so that
we can provide these products to its clients at a reasonable price.
